I’ve been a big fan of the classic Acai bowl since my first time trying one about 2 years ago when I visited New York over the Summer. They’re so delicious and even more versatile, depending on what you like. You can adapt it to your taste so easily.
Lazy Sunday mornings are meant for Acai bowls in bed in my opinion! This morning I went for a fruity style bowl, although my all time favourite has to be the Almond Butter Bliss Acai Bowl from Juice Generation. I literally can’t even begin to express how delicious that is! Definitely next on my list to try a homemade version of that combination! Acai bowls are made from Acai berries, which, I assumed would look similar to a blueberry and would be easily found. However, they’re definitely not something you would see in your local supermarket. For whatever reason, you’re most likely to find these in a frozen pureed form, or in a powder form, from your local health food store. The apparent health benefits of the acai berry include, improved heart health, improved skin, aids digestion, boosted immune system, and many more. Don’t they sound like the ultimate superfood?! Haha, I’m by no means in any way qualified to advise anyone of the health benefits of foods, but these are just a few things I found out after doing some light research!
The brand I used for this Acai Bowl was Sambazon, I’ve never tried another brand – this was my first ever attempt but so far so good! I fully intend on making lots more over the Summer, these really are so refreshing. I topped mine with some frozen berries, coconut, and frozen mango (my new favorite snack – seriously!)
- 1 serve serve of frozen Acai puree from Sambazon
- 1 frozen banana
- 1 cup of water/juice
- 1 cup of frozen berries
- As much toppings as you like
- Pour hot water over the Acai packet to defrost
- Break it up and pop in the NutriBullet along with the rest of the ingredients
- Blend until smooth
- Pour into a bowl and decorate as you like
I took these snaps myself on my new Sony a5100, you’ll have seen from my Instagram (@niamh_osullivan) yesterday how delighted I am with it! Anyway, I hope everyone is having a lovely Sunday!
