In Need of Workout Motivation?

Ok, so. It’s the 8th of January and I still have not lifted a finger in terms of exercise this year. I don’t know where my workout motivation is, I can’t find it anywhere. I am finding it so incredibly tough to just get my head around the thoughts of working out again. I have nothing to work towards, no holidays, or big events, so it’s just me working out for the benefit of my mind and body that’s driving me. And it’s very easy to ignore those aspects.

I really had to do some digging in terms of sourcing genuine motivation for this post. I didn’t want to just put a list of tips together, I wanted to add a little something extra. I thought it could be good to put a few quotes together, and the bare faced facts, so that you can screenshot them and save them in your phone for when it’s 6am and you literally can’t peel yourself off the bed. So feel free to screenshot away! 😉

The Quotes

“In 4 weeks you will notice the difference, in 8 weeks your friend and family will notice the difference, and in 12 weeks, everyone else will notice the difference.”

So let’s break it down… February, March and April are your months in this case. When you put an actual physical date on something it becomes A LOT scarier and realistic. See if you have any events or weddings that might put a fire under your bum to kickstart that motivation.

“You will never get a good bum by sitting on it.”

“The fact that you aren’t where you want to be should be motivation enough.”

Tackle this one by deciding where it is you want to be and working backwards from there. Maybe you want to trim a few centimetres off your hips, or be able to deadlift your bodyweight. Whatever it may be, you need to put a plan in place to achieve this.

“Do it for the after selfie.”

As superficial as this one sounds, it’s true. I’ve been there, done that, and I promise you it is the best feeling ever! To be able to line up a photo you’re embarrassed by next to one you couldn’t be prouder of genuinely feels amazing.

“It’s okay if you failed yesterday. Today is a new day. Lifestyle is a marathon, not a sprint.”

Slow and steady wins the race, and all that jazz! At the end of the day you’re not looking for a quick fix. Wouldn’t it be surreal to be one of those people who is just on the health and fitness buzz all year round? Life would be so much better! Don’t beat yourself up over a few hiccups. The end goal is longterm consistency, so you’re allowed a few takeaways and duvet days, your’e human!!!

The Facts

  1. Summer officially starts in 17 weeks (!!!).
  2. You will never ever regret doing a workout, unless you break your leg or something like that.
  3. You will have a lot less to hide behind when summer does eventually roll around. I’m currently bundled under a knitted jumper, but that won’t be the case mid July (hopefully). You know you’re going to want to wear summer dresses, shorts and t shirts, so now genuinely is the time to start working on your problem areas so that you can feel confident in yourself.
  4. If you tell people you’re going to do something, and you don’t, you instantly look like an eejit. So tell people! Tell them you’re going to the gym 4 times a week, that you have a goal outfit to fit into, or that you’re cutting down on your fast food. It instantly makes you accountable which is probably what you need!
  5. Once you see results, it becomes an addiction.
  6. Exercise is therapy.
  7. You are your problem, but also your solution.
  8. Just imagine yourself in 6 months if you kept on going.

Tips

  • Grab a workout buddy, it will keep you accountable.
  • Reward yourself with things other than food. I’m talking about maybe new earphones, or runners, or a candle for your room. Anything other than food, it’s not a wonderful habit to get in to.
  • Set reminders in your phone
  • Plan your workouts and have them ready to go before you get to the gym
  • Stop comparing to others, you never know what’s real and you also never know how hard someone may have worked for what they have.
  • Tell the negative voice in your head to shut up!

So there you have it! I hope this post gets your mind into some sort of motivated mood. I have to admit I feel a lot more motivated after writing it! Please let me know if you liked it!
